What is the difference between Kubb and Finska?

You're not the first to wonder!  Both of course are Scandinavian wood chuckin games.  Finska is a race to exactly 50 points and is best played by two teams of 1 to 4 players.  Kubb is a battle game between two teams where the aim is to capture all their soldiers (kubbs) and once you've accomplished that, you can knock down the King to win. Kubb is often known as Viking Chess for this reason.  Kubb is played by two teams of 1 to 6 players.

Which is better, Finska or Kubb?

Hmmm...we are asked this often!  And to be fair we have not yet solved this tricky question.  What we can say is that if you love one you will more than likely love them both.  Even here at Planet Finska HQ we argue about this often and the team is divided.

Are Finska & Kubb good for kids?

Yes!  One of the great aspects of these games is that all ages, all peoples love them.  In fact both are a great way to break the ice when there may not be a lot  to talk about! We now hear often how families across Australia, from the grandies through to the littlies, play our games on Christmas and Boxing day as part of their extended family tradition. We do however that kids under 8 are supervised as both games involve throwing wood at wood.  Always underarm of course!!!

What does "No Helicopters" mean?

Some Kubb players have been known to push the boundaries and fling their batons in a sideways "helicopter" fashion in order to gain an advantage and maximise their chances of taking out multiple kubbs in one hit.  This is strictly "forbjuden"!!  Yes. that's forbidden in Swedish.
